Hello and welcome to my sixth blog and first ever Stat Pack. I’ve decided to have a week off from Pay Per View reviewing and instead this week I’ll give you some stats, facts and figures based on my reviews of the first five WWE PPVs. So everything you read in this blog will be referring to Wrestlemania, Wrestling Classic, Wrestlemania II, The Big Event and Wrestlemania III.

The early days in WWE have proven that Hulk Hogan is a dominant champion, taking on all comers. We’ve also seen the Intercontinental title passed between Greg Valentine, Tito Santana, Randy Savage and Ricky Steamboat. The tag team titles have been held by Windham & Rotenda, The Iron Sheik & Nikolai Volkoff, The Dream Team, The British Bulldogs and The Hart Foundation. Anyway, all the important stats can be found in this blog!

Highest Ranking Pay Per Views

1. Wrestlemania III (47/100)
2. Wrestlemania (45/100)
3. Wrestlemania II (41/100)
4. The Big Event (38/100)
5. Wrestling Classic (36/100)

To no suprise, the three Wrestlemanias top the list. More money were pumped into these shows and all the big matches features on them. Wrestlemania III tops the list and its matches like Steamboat vs. Savage and Hogan vs. Andre that helped it there. Wrestling Classic featured a lot of throw away tournament matches that lacked quality so comes bottom of the list.

Junkyard Dog

Most Pay Per View Appearances

1= Junkyard Dog (5)
1= Ricky Steamboat (5)
1= Hulk Hogan (5)
4= Adrian Adonis (4)
4=  “Mr Wonderful”Paul Orndorff (4)
4= Tito Santana (4)
4= Brutus Beefcake (4)
4= Don Muraco (4)
4= Greg “The Hammer” Valentine (4)
4= King Kong Bundy (4)
4= Nikolai Volkoff (4)
4= Rowdy Roddy Piper (4)
4= The Iron Sheik (4)

There are 13 guys that have fought on 4 PPVs, 3 of those that have been on all five shows. After order of PPVs, I have ranked them by number of matches. Hogan, JYD and Steamboat have had matches on all of WWEs PPVs so far which shows the power of babyfaces.

Most Pay Per View Matches

1. Junkyard Dog (7)
2= Ricky Steamboat (6)
2= “Macho Man” Randy Savage (6)
4= Hulk Hogan (5)
4= Dynamite Kid (5)
4= Adrian Adonis (5)
4= Tito Santana (5)
4= “Mr Wonderful” Paul Orndorff (5)

Eight men feature on the most matches list. JYD tops it, mostly in part due to winning the Wrestling Classic tournament. Steamboat and Savage who were also in the tournament make the top 3.

HulkHogan

Highest Win Percentage (minimum 2 matches)

1. Hulk Hogan 100% (5 matches)
2= Harley Race 100% (2 matches)
2= Mr T 100% (2 matches)
4. Ricky Steamboat 83.3% (6 matches)
5. Junkyard Dog 71.4% (7 matches)
6. Macho Man Randy Savage 66.6% (6 matches)
7. Andre The Giant 66.6% (3 matches)
8. Dynamite Kid 60% (5 matches)

The idea was to stick to ten men per list, but due to ties I have to go higher or lower. So there are eight on this one. The only 8 (that have had 2+ matches) with a win per centage of over 50%. Hulk Hogan does not lose very often and he’s unbeaten on PPV thus far. Harley Race and Mr T are also unbeaten in the two matches they have had. Savage and Steamboat have good win ratios considering how many matches they’ve had.

Most wins

1= Hulk Hogan (5)
1= Ricky Steamboat (5)
1= Junkyard Dog (5)
4. “Macho Man” Randy Savage (4)
5. Dynamite Kid (3)

Most Draws

1= Don Muraco (2)
1= “Mr Wonderful” Paul Orndorff (2)
3= David Sammartino (1)
3= Billy Jack Haynes (1)
3= Haku (1)
3= Hercules (1)
3= Brutus Beefcake (1)
3= Tito Santana (1)

Most Losses

1= Greg “The Hammer” Valentine (3)
1= Rowdy Roddy Piper (3)
1= Adrian Adonis (3)

All self-explanatory lists there with highest wins, draws and losses. The losses list had a lot of people with 2 losses so I kept it to the top three. Nobody features on any two lists and the wins are higher than the losses mainly because of The Wrestling Classic tournament.

bob-orton-jr

Highest Loss Percentage (minimum 2 matches)

1= “Cowboy” Bob Orton 100% (2 matches)
1= Pedro Morales 100% (2 matches)
3= Greg “The Hammer” Valentine 75% (4 matches)
3= Rowdy Roddy Piper 75% (4 matches)
5= Hercules 66.6% (3 matches)
5= Big John Studd 66.6% (3 matches)
5= Brian Blair 66.6% (3 matches)
5= British Bulldog Davey Boy Smith 66.6% (3 matches)
5= Jake “The Snake” Roberts 66.6% (3 matches)
5= Jim Brunzell 66.6% (3 matches)

The top ten loss percentage’s feature all of those with a loss record of 66.6% or more. Bob Orton and Morales top the list which shows how much the two have dropped out of their prime. Piper is your main event jobber whilst the other five have won just one of their three matches. Interesting that Dynamite Kid was in the top ten highest win percentage whilst his tag team partner was in the top loss percentage.

 RoddyPiper

Most Main Events

1. Hulk Hogan (5)
2= Rowdy Roddy Piper (2)
2= “Mr Wonderful” Paul Orndorff (2)
3= King Kong Bundy (1)
3= Andre The Giant (1)
3= Mr T (1)
3= Macho Man Randy Savage (1)
3= Junkyard Dog (1)

Most main events go to Hulk Hogan of course who has main evented every PPV so far. For the Wrestling Classic I counted both the World title match between Hogan & Piper and the tournament final between JYD & Savage as the joint Main Event.

Top Rated Matches

1. Randy Savage vs. Ricky Steamboat – Wrestlemania III (8.5/10)
2. Hulk Hogan vs. Andre The Giant – Wrestlemania III (7.5/10)
3. Hulk Hogan & Mr T vs. Paul Orndorff & Rowdy Roddy Piper – Wrestlemania (7/10)
4= Randy Savage vs. Ricky Steamboat – Wrestling Classic (6.5/10)
4= Hulk Hogan vs. Paul Orndorff – The Big Event (6.5/10)

The top rated matches features three matches involving Hulk Hogan and the other two being Savage and Steamboats epic contests. Not bad really considering how much stick Hogan gets as a worker.

Lowest Ranking Matches
1= Paul Orndorff vs. Tito Santana – Wrestling Classic (2/10)
1= Fabulous Moolah vs. Velvet McIntyre – Wrestlemania II (2/10)
1= Uncle Elmer vs. Adrian Adonis – Wrestlemania II (2/10)
1= Corporal Kirchner vs. Nikolai Volkoff – Wrestlemania II (2/10)
1= Tony Garea vs. Ted Arcidi – The Big Event (2/10)
1= Haku vs. Don Muraco – The Big Event (2/10)
1= Adrian Adonis vs. Junkyard Dog – The Big Event (2/10)

The only guy to feature twice on this list is Adrian Adonis, which is not good for him! The rest of the list were horrendous for various reasons and all equally horrendous as they rated 2 out of 10. Do not go back and watch any of these matches.

Highest Average Match Rating (2 ratings or more)

1. Hulk Hogan (6.45)
2= Bret “Hitman” Hart (5.75)
2= Jim “The Anvil” Neidhart (5.75)
4. Rowdy Roddy Piper (5.58)
5. Hoss/Dory Funk Jr (5.5)
6. Andre The Giant (5.41)
7. Ricky Steamboat (5.25)
8. Brian Blair (5.16)
9. Jim Brunzell (5.16)
10. Macho Man Randy Savage (5.08)

Unsurprisingly Hulk Hogan tops the list after some great matches with Andre, Orndorff and Piper. 5 of the top 10 were in the awesome battle royal at Wrestlemania II. Savage and Steamboat just know how to have good matches whilst Dory Funk Jr is also a suprise entry in the top 5.

corporal-kirchner2

Lowest Average Match Rating (2 or more matches)
1. Corporal Kirchner (2.5)
2. Adrian Adonis (2.85)
3. Harley Race (3)
4. Don Muraco (3.5)
5. Junkyard Dog (3.58)
6. Hercules (3.6)
7. Billy Jack Haynes (3.75)
8= Ted Arcidi (4)
8= Nikolai Volkoff (4)
8= Haku (4)

Interesting that there is such little difference between the bottom of this list and the bottom of the list above it. It just goes to show how close it all is. On this list is pretty much everyone you would expect. Kirchner, Adonis, Muraco, Arcidi, Volkoff. These guys are not know for their classic matches. They’re all of the old school style, a style that was slowly fading out at this point.

Highest Manager Success Rate (2 or more matches)

Slick (100%)
Miss Elizabeth (66.6%)
Jimmy Hart (50%)
Captain Lou Albano (50%)
“Classy” Freddie Blassie (50%)
Fabulous Moolah (50%)

Slick has only been manager for two matches but he can’t complain really, having won successful matches as manager of Iron Sheik/Nikolai Volkoff and Butch Reed. Miss Elizabeth obviously manages Randy Savage who has won two thirds of his matches whilst the other four on the list all have a 50% success rate.

19890731_heenan_pt1

Highest Manager Loss Rate (2 or more matches)
“Cowboy” Bob Orton (100%)
Bobby “The Brain” Heenan (66.6%)
Captain Lou Albano (50%)
Mr Fuji (50%)
Jimmy Hart (50%)
Fabulous Moolah (50%)
“Classy” Freddie Blassie (50%)

The highest loss percentage goes to Bob Orton who managed two of Roddy Pipers matches, both of which he lost. Bobby Heenan is in second place with his clients losing two thirds of their matches. The rest are similar to the list above, except for Mr Fuji who has a 50/50 loss/draw record.
