30 Men, 1 Winner, Something’s Got To Give! It’s now time for the 1995 Royal Rumble Review! This is the 8th annual Royal Rumble event and like every one before it this will feature a main event of a Royal Rumble match. Also on this event we’ll have three title matches and another Brucey bonus.
Going into this show Big Daddy Cool Diesel is the WWF Champion. He beat former champion Bob Backlund in 8 seconds at Madison Square Garden a couple of days after Backlund beat Bret Hart at Survivor Series. Diesel is a big fan favourite now and tonight he takes on Bret Hart who Diesel granted a title shot to. Both men are fan favourites and it’ll be interesting to see who the crowd are on side for in Diesels first title defence.
Razor Ramon is still our Intercontinental champion and tonight he defends against an up and comer in the WWF, Jeff Jarrett. Recently Jarrett has been accompanied by his Roadie, somebody who’s there to carry his towel and stuff. Roadie has been getting involved in Jarrett matches though. Will he be the difference maker tonight? At Survivor Series I.R.S would get involved in The Undertakers match against Yokozuna. Since then I.R.S has been stalking The Undertaker with mysterious druids and tonight, they’ll square off against one another.
The final title match tonight is for the tag team titles vacated by Shawn Michaels and Diesel. A tournament would decide new champions. In the first round matches Bam Bam Bigelow and Tatanka of The Million Dollar Corporation defeated Men On A Mission, The Headshrinkers defeated Owen Hart and Jim Neidhart, The Heavenly Bodies defeated The Bushwhackers and The 123 Kid and Bob Holly, who replaced The Smoking Gunns due to Bart Gunn having a rodeo injury, defeated Well Dunn. In the semi finals Bam Bam Bigelow and Tatanka beat The Headshrinkers and 123 Kid and Bob Holly beat The Heavenly Bodies setting up a final tonight of Bam Bam Bigelow and Tatanka against The 123 Kid and Bob Holly. So let’s go to the action.
A white limo pulls up in the car park and Dink the Clown shouts for everyone to come over. Pamera Anderson then steps out of the limo and guys like Mabel, Tatanka, Kwang, Doink and The Heavenly Bodies cheers. Practically the whole roster. We then get some awful comedy music and the Royal Rumble logo comes up. Vince McMahon then welcomes everybody to the Royal Rumble 1995. McMahon is at ringside with Jerry Lawler. They give us a quick introduction and run down a few of the matches. It’s Diesel vs. Bret Hart tonight, face vs face, does that mean a guaranteed heel winner of the Royal Rumble? We’ll find out soon!
Razor Ramon (c) vs. Jeff Jarrett – Intercontinental Championship Match
Jeff Jarrett comes out in black and white ring gear and is joined by his Roadie who makes his PPV debut tonight. Ramon gets a great ovation. This is Ramons third Royal Rumble pay per view. He’s never been in the Rumble match itself, last year he defeated I.R.S retaining his Intercontinental title and the year before he lost to Bret Hart in his only PPV World title match. Jarrett made his PPV debut in last years Rumble match and was thrown out by Randy Savage. Jarrett has been on a slow rise since then with his only pay per view win being against Mabel at Summerslam 94. Razor chucks his toothpick at The Roadie then Jarrett and Ramon get into it. Razor hits his trademark fallaway slam early into the match and Jeff rolls to the outside where The Roadie sees to him. Jeff Jarrett has seriously awful hair. He hits an arm drag and then struts across the ring. This is Razors second Intercontinental title reign having lost the gold to Diesel before winning it back at Summerslam. Razor actually won 6 of his 7 pay per view matches in 1994, his only loss was to Owen Hart in the King Of The Ring final. He slaps Jarrett before clotheslining him over the top rope to the outside.
It’s all Razor now as he lock on an armbar. Jarrett soon gets out of it and hits a big clothesline. These two men were on opposite teams at Survivor Series, a match where all of Jarretts team got counted out leaving Razor Ramon as the winner. Jarrett locks on a sleeper now. Razor gets out of it and gets a near fall but Jeff clotheslines him back down to the mat. It’s back and forth now as both men get near falls. Double J then goes back to the sleeper but Ramon gets out of it and the pace quickens. Jeff slows it back down with a neckbreaker. He then goes for some pinfalls with his feet on the ropes but the referee catches him out. Razor hits a clothesline now and gets a near fall. Come on, we know this one isn’t ending without a Razors Edge. Jarrett sidesteps the Bad Guy now and sends him to the outside. Jeff distracts the referee inside the ring and outside The Roadie takes Ramon down with a chop block! The referee then counts Razor Ramon out! Jarrett wins by count out. But Jeff isn’t happy.
Jarrett grabs the microphone and says that he isn’t happy with getting his hand raised. Jeff says he came here to take the Intercontinental title. Jarrett wants Ramon to carry on the match and tries to start a “chicken” chant. Razor decides to carry on the match! He hobbles back to the ring and the bell rings. This has never been seen before! Ramon is clearly injured but he throws Jarrett into the corner and rolls him up for a two count. Jarrett goes after Razors injured left leg singling it out and slapping it around. Ramon manages to send Jeff out to the outside but he can’t gain the advantage for long as Jarrett goes after the injured leg. Jarrett then locks the figure four on in the middle of the ring! Razor tries to turn Double J over but he struggles. Razor eventually slaps his way out of it and hits an atomic drop onto the top rope. He goes for a belly to back suplex but Jarrett reverses it into a pinfall which Ramon reverses. Razor then signals for The Razors Edge! He sets it up but falls under his dodgy knee. Jarrett then rolls him up and gets the three count! Jeff Jarrett wins the Intercontinental title! Not a bad match to start the show off. Slightly suprising that Jeff won the Intercontinental championship but he’s getting quite over as a heel.
Backstage to erm Stephanie Wyatt? She’s waiting for Jeff Jarrett and whilst she is she throws to Todd Pettingill who is in Pamela Andersons dressing room. They show some of the presents the wrestlers have sent her. Sardines from The Bushwhackers, a piggy bank from Henry Godwin. Now back to Stephanie who is with Jeff Jarrett and The Roadie. Those guys are very happy and off celebrating!
Irwin R. Shyster vs. The Undertaker
This match goes back to Survivor Series where I.R.S attacked The Undertaker during his casket match with Yokozuna. The rivalry with Ted Dibiase goes back longer though, back to Summerslam 94 where Dibiase bought in his fake Undertaker. I.R.S wrestling means that still every pay per view in WWF history has had somebody wrestle who wrestled on the very first pay per view, Wrestlemania. Both of these men are still looking for their very first win at a Royal Rumble pay per view. Last year Undertaker lost to Yokozuna and I.R.S lost to Razor Ramon. Both men challengers for titles. This year they take on each other. The match starts slowly with Shyster refusing to get into the ring but eventually he attacks Undertaker from behind before running back to the outside. Shyster actually won the last pay per view match he was in, that was at Summerslam 94. Undertaker has won his last two. I’ve never bought I.R.S as a serious threat to anybody. Soon both men get into it in the ring and Undertaker down Irwin with a big boot. The opening parts to this match are slow with Undertaker irish whipping Shyster into the corner. The dead man then hits his clothesline off the top rope. Dibiase gets up on the apron and Undertaker grabs him. Shyster then comes from behind but accidentally hits Dibiase! Undertaker clotheslines I.R.S over the top rope and then Shyster and Dibiase have a shoving match on the outside.
Dibiase then calls somebody from the back and out come two druids! One of the druids gets up on the apron distracting Undertaker but it doesn’t work as ‘Taker takes down Shyster who tries to attack him from behind. Undertaker then goes up top again but one of the druids shakes him down! I.R.S then clotheslines Undertaker to the outside but the dead man lands on his feet and goes after the druids! That’s enough for I.R.S to get Undertaker from behind and throw him into the steps. With Shyster distracting the referee the druids attack The Undertaker then roll him back into the ring. Shyster locks on an abdominal stretch, using the ropes for leverage. The referee catches him though and Undertaker hiptoss’s Shyster. It’s back and forth between the two men with the druids getting involved. Undertaker sends Shyster into one of the druids then sets up for The Tombstone. The druids get up on the apron though which is enough distraction for I.R.S to slip out and hits a big clothesline. Both men get up and Undertaker hits a chokeslam which is enough for the three count!
The dead man makes it three pay per view wins in a row in a pretty straight forward win, druids aside. But in come the druids! They go back to attacking The Undertaker They seems to be wearing similar kneepads to The Heavenly Bodies. Undertaker fights them off then in comes King Kong Bundy! King Kong Bundy attacks The Undertaker and I.R.S attacks Paul Bearer and makes off with the urn! Bundy leaves Undertaker laying in the ring and leaves. Could we be seeing the future?
Backstage now to Todd Pettingill and Diesel from an interview recorded earlier. Diesel isn’t in the mood to be interviewed, he seems very laid back. We then go to Todd with Bret Hart. Bret wants to win back the title. Todd asks about the Jackknife and Bret says he’ll cross that road when he gets to it. Bret isn’t really in the mood for talking either.
Diesel (c) vs. Bret “Hitman” Hart – WWF Championship Match
Well here we go. Interestingly on only one of the last seven pay per view has a WWF title match ended the pay per view. Diesel and Bret Hart fought at King Of The Ring 94 and at that one Diesel won the match by disqualification. This is Diesels first WWF title match on PPV since he won the title defeating Bob Backlund in 8 seconds at MAdison Square Garden 2 days after Survivor Series. Diesel shakes hands with his invited guest Lawrence Taylor who is an NFL player. Diesel is the first man to defend his title as a one time WWF champion since Yokozuna defended against Hulk Hogan at the end of Wrestlemania 9. Both fan favourites slug it out in the ring and it’s Diesel who comes out on top. He slams Bret Hart to the mat but misses the follow up elbow. Diesel soon clotheslines Hart to the outside of the ring and doesn’t let him back in. Diesels only pay per view win came by disqualification at King Of The Ring last year against Hart. He’ll be looking for his first clean win tonight. Hart wraps Diesels ropes around the ring post then gets back into the ring. You’d fancy a heel to win the Royal Rumble match and face one of these guys at Wrestlemania. But who? Shawn Michaels? Yokozuna? Owen Hart? Tatanka? Bam Bam Bigelow?
Bret Hart locks in a figure four. In 1994 Bret Hart only won 3 of his 7 PPV matches. Diesel won 1 of his 3. And yet these two guys are fighting for the WWF title tonight. Bret Hart kicks Diesel to the outside then flies through the ropes on Diesel with a suicide dive! But on the outside Diesel reverses an Irish whip, throwing Bret into the ringsteps. It’s all Diesel now as he hits a big sidewalk slam in the ring and gets a near fall. Diesel hammers away at Bret with big forearms then lifts him onto his shoulder in some sort of backbreaker. Both of these men lost their matches at Survivor Series. Diesel hits a big boot on Hart then lands an elbow. This is the first time Hart has been a challenger for the WWF title since Wrestlemania 10. He gets his foot up in Diesels face then hits a clothesline to take the champion down. This is Brets 9th PPV in a row, nobody else has that record at the moment. Bret drags Diesels legs around the post then ties them together with his wrist tape! Bret then stomps away at Diesel before getting him to his feet, hitting a bulldog and getting a near fall!
Bret hits another of his trademark moves, the side Russian leg sweep which earns him another two count. Bret hits a backbreaker then goes to the second rope and hits his elbow! Another two count for Bret. Hart then clotheslines Diesel to the outside before slingshotting himself out but Diesel catches him and rams him into the ring post! At last years Royal Rumble event both of these men were involved in the Royal Rumble match, a match that Bret Hart would go on to (co) win. Diesel signals for the Jackknife now which gets a mixed reaction. And he hits it! Diesel covers Hart and gets a two count! Shawn Michaels comes out and attacks Diesel! He stomps away at Diesel and surely this is a disqualification? The referee sends Michaels out of there. The referee then rules that the match must continue! It’s the second restart of the night.
Hart is up first and goes after Diesels knee. He stomps away then locks on the figure four! This is the first face vs. face WWF title match since Randy Savage vs. Ultimate Warrior at Summerslam 92. Warrior won that one by count out. Diesel gets out of the hold but Bret goes right back on his knee. Diesel gets out of the way and forearms away at Hart. Diesel will be gutted if he loses this since he already should have won, if not by the Jackknife then by disqualification. He hits a gutwrench suplex and gets a two count. Bret wraps Diesels legs around the ring post then grabs a steel chair and smashes it into Diesels knee! The crowd boo as the match continues. Bret then locks the Sharpshooter on Diesel in the middle of the ring. But in comes Owen Hart! Owen breaks up the Sharpshooter then takes off a turnbuckle and throws Bret into the exposed steel. Owen Hart is class. And still the match continues! Diesel covers The Hitman but he kicks out!
Both men get up and hammer away at each other. It’s Bret that takes Diesel down to the mat but the champion gets back up and hits some forearms. Hart falls back through the ropes and gets his leg stuck in the rope! Diesel goes to the outside and grabs a chair! Bret manages to free himself from the ropes and Diesel drops the chair. Bret goes down selling the knee, although it glances at Diesel before he did. Diesel goes over to him but Bret rolls him up! Bret was playing possum and it earns him a 2 count. Bret goes to roll Diesel up but ends up sending him into the referee. With the referee down in comes Shawn Michaels, Owen Hart, Bob Backlund, Jeff Jarrett and The Roadie! All 5 men attacks Bret Hart and Diesel! Owen and Backlund stomp at Bret whilst Michaels, Jarrett and Roadie take shots at Diesel. The referee calls for the bell as loads of other referees and officials rush down to the ring to split it up. The Fink then makes the announcement that this match is a draw! The first draw since Summerslam 92 when Michaels met Martel. All 5 men rush the ring again with Bob Backlund locking the chickenwing crossface on Bret Hart! Diesel clears the ring of everyone then helps Bret Hart back up to his feet. The two men that shake hands in the ring and embrace in a hug. Good match between these two. Diesel retains his title and probably goes on to Wrestlemania to defend it.
Rating: 7.5/10* Match Of The Night
Backstage now to Todd Pettingill who is still in Pamela Andersons dressing room. Pamela Anderson is getting changed and asks Todd to pass her purse.
Now to what’s her face Stephanie who is backstage with 123 Kid and Bob Holly. They weren’t even suposed to be in the tournament, they replaced The Smoking Gunns in the semi finals of this tournament to crown new tag team champions. They’re happy to be here but are confident they can win the titles tonight.
Tatanka & Bam Bam Bigelow vs. The 123 Kid & Bob “Sparky Plugg” Holly – Tag Team Title Match
Well since Shawn Michaels and Diesel vacated the tag team titles it meant we got a tag team tournament. The Smoking Gunns got injured in the semi finals which meant 123 Kid and bob Holly replaced them and got to the final. The Smoking Gunns will face the winners of this match on Raw. Bob Holly and Tatanka start the match off. 123 Kid has been tag team champion once before with Marty Jannetty. Neither Tatanka or Bam Bam Bigelow have ever won a championship in the WWF. Tatanka hits a sidewalk slam on Bob Holly. This Bob Hollys second match on pay per view, he replaced The 123 Kid in last years Royal Rumble. Bob hits a nice dropkick on Tatanka. Both men make tags and Bam Bam takes down both men with clotheslines. Bam Bam was successful in his Survivor Series match, Tatanka looking for his first win since Summerslam. Bigelow throws Kid high up in the air but 123 comes back down with a hurricanrana! Bam Bam hits a kick which gets him a 2 count.
Tatanka tagged back in now and he takes control of 123 with a big Irish whip. Tatanka actually defeated Bam Bam Bigelow at last years Royal Rumble event. And in comes Bigelow who wears down The Kid with a big suplex. Kids last win on pay per view was against Jeff Jarrett in last years King Of The Ring tournament. Kid dropkicks Tatanka into Bam Bam then he and Holly go to the top but they are both caught! Both men get down though and send Tatanka and Bam Bam into one another which gets them a 2 count. Holly takes it to Tatanka with clotheslines but Bigelow pulls down the top rope and Bob goes flying to the outside. With the referee distracted Bam Bam stomps away at Holly on the outside. You’d fancy Tatanka and Bam Bam to win this then go on to feud with The Smoking Gunns. Tatanka takes down Holly with a clothesline then celebrates. Dibiase is looking for his first win tonight following I.R.S’s loss earlier on. Tatanka hits a slam then gets a two count after 123 Kid interrupted the count accidentally hitting his own partner. Bam Bam then gets in and holds Holly and Tatanka comes flying off the top rope and accidentally hits Bigelow! Both teams make mistakes then Holly goes to tag Kid but Kid is too busy with Tatanka! Bigelow squashes Holly in the corner.
Bam Bam then throws Bob Holly to the outside. Holly gets back in though and tires for a sunset flip but Bigelow sits down on his opponent. Holly crawls over to the wrong corner and tries to tag Tatanka, idiot. Bam Bam then does tag Tatanka but 123 Kid comes in and as the referee tries to get him out the heels double team Holly. Classic. Tatanka and Bam Bam Bigelow had quite the rivalry before they became partner. Bam Bam actually cut off Tatankas special red hair. It’s all Tatanka now as he slaps Bob Holly around. Both men go for a cross body and both men go down! Tatanka tags Bam Bam and Holly tags The 123 Kid! Kid takes down Bam Bam and kicks Tatanka off the apron. He then flies out on top of Tatanka before going up top and hitting a high cross body on Bigelow! Tatanka breaks it up and Bob dropkicks him to the outside. Ted Dibiase then distracts the referee and Bam Bam gorilla press slams The Kid to the outside of the ring. Back in the ring and Bam Bam slams The Kid. He then goes up to the top to moonsault Kid but Tatanka comes into the ring and runs off the ropes which causes Bigelow to fall to the mat. Holly gets rid of Tatanka and Kid rolls on top of Bam Bam Bigelow and gets the three count! Bob Holly and The 123 Kid win the tag team titles! This is the first time since Summerslam 1991 that we’ve crowned new tag team champions on PPV! Very unexpected!
Bam Bam gets up to his feet and can’t believe it. Dibiase and Tatanka seem to have gone. Bigelow berates some of the fans and even Lawrence Taylor is laughing. Taylor goes to shake Bam Bams hand but Bigelow pushes Taylor to the floor! This match was ok, a bit slow in parts. Very suprising that Kid and Holly won, they’ve got to defend against The Smoking Gunns on Raw.
We see a clip of last years Royal Rumble where Diesel was so dominant, eliminating loads of guys. We then see Shawn Michaels help eliminate Diesel. Now to an interview with Shawn Michaels. Shawn says he’ll be eliminating all the big men this year just like he did Diesel. This is the year of The Heartbreak Kid.
Then to another clip of last years Rumble match where Bret Hart and Lex Luger go flying over the top rope at the same time. Lex hasn’t actually won a match since that Royal Rumble win. Luger says 1994 is over with. Luger says the Rumble separates the men from the boys. Lex is sick and tired of being a contender, he wants to be a champion.
Vince McMahon now apologises for what happened to Lawrence Taylor earlier. Howard Finkel now introduces Pamela Anderson. She escorts the winner of the Rumble to their title match at Wrestlemania. She is escorted by Pat Paterson and Gerald Brisco.
The 1995 Royal Rumble Match
Well we’ve seen two interviews hyping this match, one from Shawn Michaels and the other from Lex Luger. So those two have got to be the favourites. Anyway here we go, Shawn Michaels draws #1! He holds up his gloves with the initials “TK” on which is a shout out to his girlfriend at the time Themis Klarides. #2 now is The British Bulldog! Two of the big names in this match start things off. Michaels gets straight into it and attacks Bulldog before the bell. Michaels got to the final four in last years event. There are obviously time constraints as we’ll get a new man every 60 seconds! #3 is Eli Blu making his PPV debut. He’s a big old unit making his PPV debut tonight. One half of the Blu brothers I don’t fancy his chances. A new man already is #4 Duke “The Dumpster” Droese making his PPV debut! Duke goes after Michaels whilst Eli chokes Bulldog. #5 now is Jimmy Del Ray who goes after Droese. Another guy who won’t be winning the Rumble. Del Ray hasn’t won a match since Survivor Series 93.Shawn Michaels is actually looking for his first PPV win since Summerslam 93 where he beat Mr Perfect. #6 is Sione of The Headshrinkers. British Bulldog eliminates The Gigolo Jimmy Del Ray! #7 is Dr Tom Prichard who comes out to no reaction. 4 of the 7 so far have been tag team wrestlers. This Royal Rumble has been fast. #8 is Doink The Clown who goes after Sione. Doink hasn’t won a match since UK Rampage 93. I’d fancy him as the third favourite so far! #9 is Kwang who hasn’t had a PPV match since last years Royal Rumble match. #10 is Rick “The Model” Martel who is another man that hasn’t been in a PPV match since last years Royal Rumble. Although he was suposed to be at Wrestlemania 10. He’s been in 7 of the 8 Royal Rumble matches, more than anyone. Martel actually replaces Jim Neidhart who has left the WWF again, in this match. Sione and Prichard double team Bulldog.
#11 now is Owen Hart who I would say is one of the favourites. Bret Hart comes out though and attacks him before he can get into the ring! He hits him with big right hands in the entrance way! Bret Hart walks to the back as the countdown for the next guy starts! #12 is Timothy Well who I think gets a huge ovation! Oh actually, I think the ovation was for Owen Hart getting eliminated. Duke Droese is then eliminated by Shawn Michaels. And Bulldog eliminates Timothy Well. Then Rick Martel is eliminated by Sione and Shawn Michaels sends out Tom Prichard. Kwang then eliminates Doink! Kwang is eliminated by Sione then both Sione and Eli Blu throw each other out!
We’ve got just The British Bulldog and Shawn Michaels, then they are joined by #13 Luke of The Bushwhackers! Michaels eliminates Luke pretty sharpish and it’s just Bulldog and Michaels. #14 is Jacob Blu and he comes in and takes down both men but Michaels back body drops Jacob Blu eliminating him from the match! Half way now as #15 King Kong Bundy comes out. We then see a replay of Owen Hart being eliminated by The British Bulldog. Bundy goes after Bulldog and has him on the ropes. Bundy has to be a favourite. Diesel vs. King Kong Bundy at Wrestlemania? Mo is #16 and Bundy sends Mo straight out of there which Jerry Lawler finds hilarious. #17 is Mabel and he goes nose to nose with King Kong Bundy. Those two men slug it out and Mabel tries to eliminate Bundy but can’t. #18 is Butch of The Bushwhackers, just as Mabel eliminates King Kong Bundy. Shawn Michaels then eliminates Butch. Mabel and Bulldog double team Michaels as #19 Lex Luger joins the action. Luger comes in and straight away eliminates Mabel. We’ve got Lex Luger, The British Bulldog and Shawn Michaels in there now. Three of the favorites. Could Luger make it back to back wins? #20 now and it’s Mantaur. Half man, half bull making his PPV debut.
#21 is Aldo Mantoya making his PPV debut. The Portuguese Man Of War used to be a jobber called PJ Walker. #22 now and it’s Henry Godwin the hog farmer making his PPV debut too. The ring is starting to fill up once more now. I barely get time to type anything between entrances. #23 is Billy Gunn who is half of the seventh tag team we’ve seen in this Royal Rumble. The Blu Brothers, The Headshrinkers, The Bushwhackers, Men On A Mission, The Heavenly Bodies, Well Dunn and now The smoking Gunns have all been represented in this Royal Rumble. Assuming all of those tag teams are in the rumble that’s nearly half of the field. #24 is Bart Gunn. Luger goes after Henry Godwin in one corner whilst Aldo Montoya and Mantaur go at it. #25 is Bob Backlund the former WWF Champion. Bret Hart comes out though and attacks Backlund before he gets into the ring! He’s getting revenge for earlier in the night. Referees come out and break it up at the side of the ring as #26 Steven Dunn makes his way out. Bob Backlund gets in the ring and Lex Luger clotheslines him straight out! Hart and Backlund go at it in the entrance way!
#27 makes his way out now and it’s Dick Murdoch! The old timer comes out and he’s actually making his WWF PPV debut tonight! He’s a former tag team champion with Adrian Adonis. Mantaur misses a splash in the corner on Billy Gunn. #28 comes out and it’s Adam Bomb. Man I’d love to see Adam bomb win the Royal Rumble. Bomb is still looking for his first PPV victory. He’s lost 3 from 3. Henry Godwin nearly eliminates Shawn Michaels. #29 is Fatu who got to the final 4 last year. Luger eliminates Mantaur. Shawn Michaels and The British Bulldog have been in there since the beginning. #30 now and it’s Crush making his first PPV match since King Of The Ring, He comes in and eliminates both Smoking Gunns. Aldo Montoya then eliminates Steven Dunn. Henry Godwin and Crush double team Adam Bomb now. If you’re backing a heel then there’s only Shawn Michaels, Crush and Henry Godwin. We’ve got 9 guys left in there though. Adam Bomb, British Bulldog, Lex Luger, Aldo Montoya, Dick Murdoch and Fatu are still in there too. Dick Murdoch almost has Shawn Michaels in there.
Shawn Michaels and Lex Luger go at it in one corner, Crush and bulldog in another. Fatu and Dick Murdoch in the third corner and Aldo Montoya and Henry Godwin go at it. Crush then eliminates Adam Bomb! We’re down to 8. Shawn Michaels eliminates Aldo Montoya. Lex Luger saves Shawn Michaels for a second time. Crush throws out Fatu and we’re down to 6. Murdoch hits a dropkick on Henry Godwin then spins him around on his shoulders. Godwin then eliminates Murdoch! There are 5 men left. Bulldog and Luger talk together in one corner. Michaels dives across the ring at Luger and Bulldog and Crush go at it. Luger takes Godwin down with a clothesline and eliminates Henry Godwin! The final four now and it’s Shawn Michaels, Lex Luger, British Bulldog and Crush. Michaels and Crush double team Lex Luger in one corner and hammer at Bulldog every time he gets up. Luger manages to get back to his feet but Michaels hammers him over the ropes! Michaels and Crush strike a deal to go after The British Bulldog now. Imagine Diesel vs. Crush for the title at Wrestlemania. Crush kicks Shawn in the gut then lifts him high above his head but Shawn gets down. Bulldog then goes for a clothesline, Michaels ducks and Bulldog sends Crush over the top rope and out of the match.
The final two now are the two men that started the match, Shawn Michaels and The British Bulldog. Bulldog throws Michaels around the ring and nearly eliminates him. Bulldog then clotheslines Michaels over the top rope! Bulldogs music hits and he celebrates on the middle rope but Shawn Michaels comes back in and hammers Bulldog over the top rope to the outside! Who has won? Howard Finkel lets us know that only one of Shawn Michaels feet hit the floor! Therefore Shawn Michaels win the Royal Rumble! Pamela Anderson gets in the ring as we watch a replay of Michaels hanging on! Finally Shawn Michaels gets his opportunity in the main event as he goes on to face his old friend Diesel at Wrestlemania 11. Michaels wins from the number 1 spot , unbelievable.
Overall the Royal Rumble match was pretty disappointing. I mean, 14 of the 30 guys were tag team wrestlers which meant that really only 16 men stood a chance. Then you take out all of the jobbers and newcomers and you’re pretty much left with Shawn Michaels, The British Bulldog, Lex Luger, Crush, Bob Backlund, King Kong Bundy, Owen Hart, Adam Bomb and Crush. I guess 9 out of 30 isn’t that bad. Still, it would have been a big surprise if Adam Bomb or Crush won the match. Regardless, it was mainly jobbers in this match and guys who didn’t stand a chance. The pace was way too quick and you didn’t get chance to take anything in because guys were coming out every minute although it seemed even quicker than that. They seem to be trying new things with Royal Rumbles, last year it was two winners, this year it was the number 1 spot winning the whole thing. This years didn’t incorporate rivalries or anything else it was just a case of get guys out as quickly as possible. Michaels wins though and it looks like we finally get to see Shawn Michaels vs. Diesel.
Well that was The Royal Rumble 1995. Three big title matches and a Royal Rumble match. Not forgetting The Undertaker vs. I.R.S. Let’s start with that one. It was very reminiscent of I.R.S vs. Razor Ramon last year in that it was used more to set up a Wrestlemania match. This time it looks like The Undertaker vs. King Kong Bundy which was the confrontation we got after the match. I’m not sure what to make of the druids, maybe they’ll get involved in Bundy match, assuming that is the route they’re taking to Wrestlemania.
Jeff Jarrett was the first new champion crowned tonight. He actually beat Razor Ramon twice this evening, first by count out and then by pinfall. He’s been bubbling underneath the Intercontinental picture for a while whilst Ramon has feuded with the likes of Shawn Michaels and Diesel. Jarrett wins the title though as his character develops, now with the management of The Roadie it’ll be interesting to see where this goes. Ramon is definitely ready to step up to the main event scene but with the likes of Bret Hart and Diesel above him it’ll be hard for him to become that top babyface.
Bret Hart and Diesel wrestled to a draw in a babyface vs babyface match. I like how Owen Hart, Bob Backlund, Shawn Michaels and Jeff Jarrett got involved which just showed that Bret and Diesel had more on their plate than each other. There could have been three or four disqualification calls before the match was thrown out. But Diesel retains the title and goes on to face Shawn Michaels at Wrestlemania. A heel has never left Wrestlemania as champion, could Michaels be the first?
A tournament would decide the vacant tag titles left by Diesel and Shawn Michaels. Bob Holly and The 123 Kid replaced The Smoking Gunns in the tournament and would go on to win the whole thing, defeating Tatanka and Bam Bam Bigelow in the final. It’s a nice story for Kid and holly who go on to defend the titles against The Smoking Gunns on Raw. Bam Bam Bigelow had an altercation with Lawrence Taylor after the match, could that lead to something? Then in the Royal Rumble, Shawn Michaels defeated 29 other guys to win his spot in the main event at Wrestlemania 11. I can’t say much more on that except it was probably one of if not the worst Royal Rumble matches of all time. Way too rushed.
Overall Rating: 60/100 (Ranked Joint 3rd out of 42)
Best Match Of The Night: Diesel vs. Bret Hart
Worst Match Of The Night: Bam Bam Bigelow & Tatanka vs. 123 Kid & Bob Holly
Surprise Of The Night: 123 Kid & Bob Holly Win Tag Titles
Wrestler Of The Night: Shawn Michaels
Royal Rumble 95 Will Be Remembered For: Shawn Michaels winning the Royal Rumble from #1 spot
