Finally…..The Rock makes his return and his first WWE Championship match in a long long time. On July 23, 2012 The Rock made the announcement that he would challenge for the WWE Championship at the Royal Rumble whoever the champion is. Well CM Punk has hung on to the title for well over a year and is the man to defend the title tonight. It was that night that CM Punk turn heel, attacking The Rock as he tried to save John Cena. The Rock has returned over the last month in a war of words with CM Punk who is the longest reigning WWE Champion of the modern era. Last week on Raw The Shield attacked The Rock, leaving him laying and since then Vince McMahon has decreed that if The Shield get involved in the match at the Royal Rumble then CM Punk will be stripped of the WWE Championship.
Over the past few weeks The Big Show has embarrassed Ricardo Rodriguez, choosing to face him on Raw before knocking him out. Alberto Del Rio took exception to this and attacked Big Show, causing a disqualification win for the champion. A Last Man Standing match for the World Heavyweight Championship was then made for Smackdown and Alberto won the match after burying Big Show under a table. Del Rio became champion but Big Show was quick to ask for his rematch, announcing the match for the Royal Rumble and making the match another Last Man Standing match. Damien Sandow and Cody Rhodes have both scored singles wins over Team Hell No which has led to a WWE Tag Team Championship match tonight.
And on top of that all of that we have the annual Royal Rumble match. The match I love to watch more than any other. There are some strong competitors in this years match with the likes of John Cena, Ryback. Sheamus, Randy Orton, Wade Barrett, Dolph Ziggler, Kane, Daniel Bryan, Rey Mysterio and Kofi Kingston among others.
On the pre-show Cesaro successfully defended his United States Championship against The Miz.
A video package kicks us off, first focusing on the Royal Rumble match and then the WWE Championship match between CM Punk and The Rock.
There’s a massive firework show in the arena and Michael Cole welcomes us to the US Airways Center in Phoenix.
Alberto Del Rio (c) vs. The Big Show – Last Man Standing match for the World Heavyweight Championship
There two men have met on pay per view before, it was Capitol Punishment 2011 and Alberto Del Rio defeated Big Show that night. Del Rio has only wrestled at Royal Rumble before and that night he won the biggest Royal Rumble match of all time. Unbelievably The Big show has a 0-13 record at Royal Rumble events. He’s backstage getting ready for his match when he bumps into Bret Hart who tells him that he is the Mexican Bret Hart. Hart gives Rodriguez his sunglasses. There’s a weird break with Big Show in the ring and Michael Cole introduces the show. Big Show starts the match well, laying into Del Rio with right hands, headbutts and chops. Alberto fires back with some rights of his own but runs into a clothesline. Big Show hits a powerslam and then another chop but Del Rio takes the advantage with a low dropkick and a kick to the face. Big Show looks for a powerbomb but Del Rio counters with a hurricanrana.
Here’s a stat for you, the World Heavyweight Championship has never changed hands at a Royal Rumble event. Del Rio hits a seated senton and a running enzeguri before working the left arm of his challenger. Del Rio looks to lock on the cross arm breaker but Big Show lifts him up and drives him into the mat. Big Show leaves the ring to grab a chair but Del Rio sees him coming and hits a dropkick before picking up the chair himself and laying into the man who bought the chair into the ring. Del Rio goes up to the second rope but Big Show catches him and chokeslams the World Heavyweight Champion. The referee counts and Del Rio only just beats the ten count before rolling to the outside. Big Show powerslam Del Rio on the outside but Alberto fires back with a low blow and a kick to the head. The referee begins his count but Big Show is up at nine. The two men battle up the aisle where Big Show throws Del Rio into a part of the set a couple of times.
Big Show hits Del Rio with a light tube and then sets a table up. Show hits a big chop and then climbs up the set, pulls Del Rio up with him and then chokeslams him off, through the table! Del Rio beats the count of ten and crawls back towards the ringside area with Big Show in pursuit. Back in the ring and Big Show motions for his knockout punch but Del Rio rolls out of the ring. Ricardo Rodriguez attempts to get involved but Big Show throws him into the barricade. Show then attempts a spear but Del Rio gets out of the way and Big show goes crashing through the barricade. Big Show beats the count of ten and Del Rio immediately lays into him with a chair multiple times. He lays Big Shows arm across the ring steps and then whacks it with a chair again. Del Rio then grabs a fire extinguisher and sprays it in Big Show’s face. In the ring Del Rio locks on the cross arm breaker. Ricardo Rodriguez duck tapes Big Show’s feet to the bottom rope! Del Rio breaks the hold and the referee counts to ten with Big Show unable to get to his feet because of being duck taped to the bottom rope!
Alberto Del Rio retains the World Heavyweight Championship tonight! I loved the finish, very creative. Big Show goes 0-14 at Royal Rumble events. Nice way to kick off the show.
Matt Striker is backstage with Dolph Ziggler, Big E Langston and AJ Lee. Striker asks Dolph which number he is going to take from winning the beat the clock challenge on Raw. He has the option of 1 or 2 and decides to go with 1. AJ then intimidates Matt Striker who walks off. Big E does a comedy interview with Dolph who says that he is going to cash in his Money In The Bank contract after winning the Royal Rumble and combine the WWE and World Heavyweight Championships.
Next are some interviews with some of the Royal Rumble competitors. Like the old 90’s videos. We get words from Cesaro, The Prime Time Players, Randy Orton, John Cena, Wade Barrett, Sheamus and Ryback. I really liked this.
We’re shown some footage from the pre-show with Cesaro beating The Miz to retain the United States Championship.
Team Hell No (Daniel Bryan & Kane) vs. Team Rhodes Scholars (Cody Rhodes & Damien Sandow) – WWE Tag Team Championship match
This is the second pay per view match between these two teams. Team Hell No won the previous encounter at Hell In A Cell. Cody Rhodes has a 0-4 record at Royal Rumble events whilst Kane has lost at 13 Royal Rumble events and drawn at one. Daniel Bryan and Cody Rhodes start the match and we get a bit of wrestling between the two. Bryan locks on a surfboard and then tags in Kane who comes in with a dropkick for a two count. Cody hits a dropkick of his own to take the advantage and then tags in Damien Sandow. Kane slams Sandow drops an elbow. Kane then tags Daniel Bryan back in. Bryan hits a running dropkick and then some kicks to the chest before tagging Kane back in. Kane hits a big boot, knocking Sandow out of the ring and then throws Cody Rhodes out too. Kane tags in Bryan who hits a suicide dive on both challengers before rolling Sandow back in. Sandow pushes Bryan into the the ropes and Rhodes opens the ropes up so Bryan falls to the outside.
Cody Rhodes smashes Daniel Bryan into the ring apron a few times and then rolls him back into the ring before tagging in. Rhodes hits a big powerslam and then locks on a half Boston crab. Bryan counters with a roll up for a two count. Rhodes tags in Damien Sandow who hits the elbow of disdain for a near fall. Sandow then hits knees to the back and a kneedrop for a two count. Bryan fires back with a spinning heel kick but Sandow pulls Bryan back to the middle of the ring and tags in Cody Rhodes. Bryan hits a DDT Bryan tags in Kane who hits a sideslam and then heads to the top but Damien goes up with him. Kane knocks Sandow off and looks for a clothesline but Sandow moves out of the way and hits a bit of a botched swinging neckbreaker for a two count. Kane sets up for a chokeslam but in comes Rhodes. They fight off Kane but Daniel Bryan tags himself in. Bryan comes in off the top with a missile dropkick on Sandow.
Kane chokeslams Cody Rhodes and Daniel Bryan locks the no lock on Sandow! Sandow taps out which means Kane and Daniel Bryan retain their WWE Tag Team Championships! Decent enough match between these two teams.
There’s a video package about the Royal Rumble numbers. This gets updated every year but as a man who loves the stats, this is always a VT I look forward to.
Kane and Daniel Bryan are backstage celebrating their win when Vickie Guerrero gives them their entry numbers into the Royal Rumble match. Bryan shows Kane his number but Kane won’t show Bryan. There’s some “I’ve shown you mine, you show me yours” jokes.
We’re shown some footage from the Royal Rumble fan-fest which included an 8 man tournament of NXT wrestlers with the winner entering the Royal Rumble match. Bo Dallas was the winner.
The 2013 Royal Rumble match
Here we go, my favourite match of the year. We know that Dolph Ziggler is #1. He was also number one in the 2012 Royal Rumble match. He gets a good luck snog off AJ. Ziggler gets on the mic and says that he is standing alone now and will be standing alone at the end. #2 is Chris Jericho! The crowd go absolutely mad for the return of Jericho! He was fired after losing a match to Dolph Ziggler last summer. The crowd are on their feet for Jericho. Jericho was runner up last year whilst Ziggler challenged for the WWE Championship. Jericho starts with a headlock but dolph pushes him away and nearly eliminates Jericho who lands on the apron and hits a dropkick. Jericho then clotheslines Ziggler down to the apron but Ziggler fights him off and heads to the top. Jericho goes up with Ziggler and hits a superplex. #3 is Cody Rhodes making his second appearance of the night. Jericho takes Rhodes down with clotheslines but Ziggler attacks Jericho from behind and it’s two against one. Jericho fights them off and locks the walls of Jericho on Rhodes.
#4 is Kofi Kingston. Kingston comes in with a big springboard dropkick on Rhodes before hitting him with ten right hands. Kofi kooks for trouble in paradise on Ziggler who avoids it. Kofi and Ziggler nearly eliminate one another. Jericho and Rhodes still go at it whilst Ziggler and Kingston are paired off in another corner. #5 is Santino who has been a runner up in the past. Santino tips Kofi, Ziggler, Rhodes and Jericho on to the apron before celebrating. But all four men get back into the ring. Santino hits the cobra on Kofi but Ziggler hits him with a superkick and Cody Rhodes throws Santino over the top, eliminating Santino form the match. He’s the first elimination. We’ve got three solid upper- midcarders in there with Rhodes, Kingston and Ziggler. #6 is Drew McIntyre who is the most annoying he’s ever been in his career. Drew hits a big boot on Kingston as Rhodes stomps away at Ziggler. Ziggler hits a big dropkick on Jericho as McIntyre lays into Kingston. Ziggler nearly eliminates Jericho who dangles form the middle rope.
#7 is Titus O’Neil who goes right to work on Kofi Kingston. Titus clotheslines Kofi and Rhodes down as Dolph and McIntyre double team Jericho. O’Neil hits a backbreaker on Kingston before flinging him to the mat. Jericho low-bridges McIntyre and then its him with a springboard dropkick to eliminate Drew McIntyre from the match. Jericho goes to work on Titus. #8 is Goldust! It’s a big return for the golden one! He gets a big pop as Cody Rhodes looks on. Goldust and Cody exchange right hands, the two brothers going at it. Kofi and Dolph go at it in one corner as Titus wears down Jericho in another. #9 is David Otunga who hasn’t been too active recently. Otunga takes down Goldust and then Jericho. Dolph tries to eliminate Kofi as Goldust and Cody double team Titus O’Neil. #10 is Heath Slater. Slater goes right to work on Goldust and then his former Nexus buddy Otunga. Dolph and Titus double team Goldust but Jericho makes the save. Titus takes down Slater and then turns his attention to Cody Rhodes.
#11 is Sheamus, the winner of last years Royal Rumble. He gets a good pop. Sheamus takes down anyone moving with backbreakers and rolling sentons. Sheamus then eliminates Titus O’Neil & David Otunga. Heath Slater jumps on Sheamus’ back allowing Rhodes to beat Sheamus down. #12 is Tensai who is looking for his first PPV victory since returning to the WWE. He goes right for Sheamus as an “Albert” chant breaks out. Sheamus has Heath Slater teetering over the top rope. #13 is Brodus Clay who has only lost one PPV match before now. Brodus has a dance with Naomi and Cameron before entering. He and Tensai then go at it. Rhodes counters a bulldog from Goldust and then mocks his brother. Goldust back body drops Rhodes on to the apron but Cody pulls his brother out with him. Goldust then clotheslines Rhodes back into the ring which might’ve been a mistake. Rhodes throws Goldust into the ringpost and Goldust falls backwards! Rhodes eliminates Goldust from the match. #14 is Rey Mysterio who quickens the pace, hitting a 619 on Ziggler and Jericho!
Rhodes looks to eliminate Mysterio but fails. Sheamus lays into Tensai with right hands as Heath Slater has Brodus Clay teetering on the top rope. Rey hits a low dropkick on Ziggler. #15 is Darren Young. Young comes out combing his hair. He joins in with six other men to eliminate Brodus Clay. Kofi Kingston then eliminates Tensai. Two big men out there. Ziggler looks to eliminate Kofi but Kingston lands on the back of Tensai! Tensai shakes Kofi off and Kingston lands on the announce desk. Kofi thinks about jumping from the announce desk to the ring and then decides against it. Kofi asks for JBL’s chair and Layfield hands it over. #16 is Bo Dallas making his PPV debut. He won an NXT tournament to earn his place. Meanwhile Kofi pogo’s on the chair to the get to the ring! Kofi then low-bridges the top rope and eliminates Darren Young. Cody Rhodes then hits a disaster kick to Kofi to eliminate Kofi Kingston from the match. #17 is The Godfather! And what a reaction for The Godfather! Godfather gets in the ring and Dolph Ziggler dropkicks him right back out eliminating The Godfather from the match!
The Godfather’s music didn’t even stop. Jericho powerslams Bo Dallas in the ring and hits him with a kneedrop. Heath Slater is still in there. #18 is Wade Barrett, the Intercontinental Champion. He joins Bo Dallas, Cody Rhodes, Dolph Ziggler, Heather Slater, Chris Jericho and Rey Mysterio. Barrett takes down Jericho and Sheamus, fighting off Heath Slater too. Cody dropkicks Mysterio as Barrett smashes Heath Slater into a top turnbuckle. #19 is John Cena who has won a Royal Rumble match before. Ziggler, Slater, Barrett and Rhodes stare out Cena and beat him down as he gets in the ring. Cena fights off everyone and eliminates Heath Slater and Cody Rhodes. Cena looks to eliminate Jericho but Ziggler somewhat saves him. Bo Dallas then takes some shots on Cena. #20 is Damien Sandow who is also pulling double duty tonight. He goes right for Dallas. Mysterio and Barrett go tumbling to the outside but Barrett gets back in the ring and kicks Mysterio off the apron, eliminating Rey Mysterio from the match.
Jericho locks the walls of Jericho on Cena but falls over. #21 is Daniel Bryan. Plenty of the original Nexus in this match with Bryan, Barrett, Slater, Darren Young, Otunga and Ryback to come. Bryan kicks away at everyone until he is the only man left standing. Bryan looks to eliminate Jericho and Sheamus gives him a hand but Jericho stays alive. Ziggler hammers away at Bo Dallas. #22 is Cesaro. The reigning United States Champion goes right after Daniel Bryan, the freshest man. Cesaro and Sheamus then slug it out. Jericho has Damien Sandow teetering as Wade Barrett takes down Cena. #23 is The Great Khali. A seventh Royal Rumble for Khali. Cole incorrectly days that Khali is the first man to be eliminated by a diva. Does he not remember Mark Henry being eliminated by Chyna?Khali chops away at everyone as Cesaro has Sheamus teetering. Khali headbutts Daniel Bryan down.
#24 is Kane. Won his first ever Royal Rumble match earlier. Kane takes shots at anyone standing. Daniel Bryan comes over to give him a hand against The Great Khali but Khali fights them both off. Sandow has Sheamus teetering. Khali headbutts Wade Barrett. #25 is Zack Ryder. Ryder takes down Dolph Ziggler as Kane and Daniel Bryan eliminate The Great Khali. Daniel Bryan then eliminates Kane! Cesaro knocks Daniel Bryan off the apron but into the arms of Kane! Kane then drops Daniel Bryan eliminating him from the match! #26 is Randy Orton. Orton takes down Cesaro and Sheamus with clotheslines and powerslams Ziggler and Ryder. Orton looks to eliminate Dallas but doesn’t. He then hits a double hangmans DDT on Dolph Ziggler and Bo Dallas. Orton RKO’s Ryder and throws him out, eliminating Zack Ryder from the match. Cesaro goes after Orton, stopping his momentum. #27 is Jinder Mahal, the most successful spot in the Royal Rumble. Jinder goes after Sheamus as John Cena eliminates Cesaro. Quite a few boo’s for that elimination. That was Cesaro’s first PPV loss. Jinder lays into Bo Dallas as Cena slingshots Ziggler over the top. Ziggler gets back in.
#28 is The Miz. Miz and Cesaro get right into it in the entranceway. Michael Cole tells us that The Miz has injured his ankle on the pre-show. Sheamus eliminates Jinder Mahal. Miz and Cena gets into it with Mix hitting as neckbreaker. Orton and Ziggler are in one corner, Sandow and Dallas in another. #29 is Sin Cara. Hopefully he doesn’t hurt himself. He kicks Ziggler in the face and then Miz. Barrett looks to eliminate Bo Dallas but Dallas pulls Barrett out and eliminates Wade Barrett from the match! That’s a shocker. Wade Barrett then comes back and eliminates Bo Dallas! Barrett hits Dallas with a bullhammer elbow. #30 is Ryback. And that is everyone. Ryback takes down Mix, Ziggler, Sandow and Orton. Ryback eliminates Damien Sandow. Sin Cara takes some shots at Ryback that Ryback no-sells. Caras attempts a cross body but Ryback swats him away. Ryback then eliminates Sin Cara. Miz tries to eliminate Ryback but that fails and Ryback eliminates The Miz. Jericho hits a codebreaker on Ryback. Jericho hits a lionsault on Cena.
There are six men left in with Jericho, Ziggler, Cena, Ryback, Orton and Sheamus. I spoke too soon, Ziggler eliminates Chris Jericho. Sheamus and Orton slug it out and Orton wins that battle. Orton then RKO’s Ziggler and RKO’s Cena! And there’s an RKO for Sheamus. Orton looks for a hangmans DDT on Ryback and hits it. Ryback counters an RKO and clotheslines Orton over the top eliminating Randy Orton from the match. Ziggler hits a big DDT on Cena and tries the same on Sheamus who counters. Sheamus then hits a brogue kick on Ziggler eliminating Dolph Ziggler from the match. We’re down to three. Sheamus, Cena and Ryback. Sheamus and Cena go right for Ryback, hitting a double suplex. Cena and Sheamus then go at it. Cena hits a couple of shoulder charges and a side suplex before motioning for the five knuckle shuffle but Ryback floors Cena with a meathook clothesline. Ryback sets Sheamus up for shellshock but Sheamus counters and hits white noise.
Three big babyfaces left in the match. Sheamus motions for a brogue kick on Ryback but Ryback counters and powerslams Sheamus over the top, eliminating Sheamus form the match. We’re down to Cena and Ryback. Ryback points to the Wrestlemania sign. Ryback hits a big spinebuster and then looks for a meathook clothesline but Cena counters and looks of the STF! Ryback appears to pass out. Cena pulls Ryback up to his feet and puts him on the top rope. Ryback then fights back and hits a Lou Thesz press. Ryback looks to eliminate Cena with a powerslam but Cena counters and shoves Ryback over the top and out of the match! John Cena wins the match, his second Royal Rumble win!
There’s a video package next for The Rock and CM Punk. If The Rock is in the building, you have to give him promo time. Rock gives a promo of his life story
Josh Mathews is backstage with The Rock.
CM Punk (c) vs. The Rock – WWE Championship match
This is a first ever match between these two men. CM Punk is flanked by Paul Heyman on his 434th day as WWE Champion. The Rock’s mum is ringside. The bell rings and the match starts frenetically. Punk gets the advantage but The Rock fires back with a clothesline. Rock sets up for a Rock bottom which Punk elbows his way out so Rock clotheslines Punk out of the ring. There’s a few boo’s for The Rock. The fight goes to the outside where The Rock lays the smack down on CM Punk. Punk kicks Rocky and rolls him back into the ring. The Rock slaps Punk back out of the ring and follows him out. Rocky reverses an Irish whip, sending Punk into the barricade. Paul Heyman then gets involved, attacking The Rock which distracts him long enough for CM Punk to attack him from behind with a clothesline. Punk suplexes Rock onto the barricade and then rolls him back into the ring. Punk hits a snapmare and a kick to the back and then applies a body scissors.
The Rock fights out of the body scissors but Punk takes him down with a dropkick. Punk clubs away at The Rock’s chest and then suplexes him on to the top rope. Paul Heyman takes a cheap shot behind the referee’s back and Punk then dropkicks The Rock to the outside. Punk goes to the top and hits a big single axe handle to the outside. Punk is selling his left knee which he recently had surgery on. Back in the ring and The Rock kicks away at Punk’s knee. Punk manages to throw The Rock to the outside and then hits a suicide dive. Daniel Bryan is the only person to have won a match at last years Royal Rumble event and this years but CM Punk could join him with a win tonight. Back in the ring and The Rock sidesteps a springboard clothesline. Rock then drives Punks knee into the mat before hitting a side Russian leg sweep for a one count. The Rock looks for Rock bottom but Punk fights out of it with elbows and set sup for a go to sleep but The Rock catches the knee and looks for s sharpshooter which Punk counters. Punk locks on the anaconda vice but The Rock gets out of it.
The Rock hits a DDT and then looks for a Rock bottom but Punk counters again. The Rock then locks on the sharpshooter! Punk manages to get to the ropes and rolls out of the ring. The Rock follows and takes apart the Spanish announce table before smashing Punk into it and laying him on it. Punk manages to kick Rock in the face and then brings his challenger onto the announce desk. Punk motions for go to sleep but The Rock counters and sets up for the Rock bottom but the table gives way! Both men fall through the table. The Rock gets up first and this time hits Rock bottom on the outside! Rocky rolls Punk back into the ring and pins him but Punk kicks out. Punk hits a big kick to the face and both men are down. Both men get to their feet and slug it out with The Rock hitting a big clothesline and a spinebuster. The crowd are on their feet as they know what comes next and The Rock motions for the people’s elbow but the lights go out! There’s commotion in the ring and presumably it’s The Shield! Michael Cole tells us that The Shield have triple powerbombed The Rock through a table but we can’t see it. The crowd boo.
The lights come back on and CM Punk stands up looking confused. Punk pulls The Rock up to his feet and rolls him into the ring. Punk hooks the leg and gets the three! CM Punk wins the match and retains the WWE Championship! Vince McMahon’s music then hits and he reminds Punk that if The shield got involved in his match then he would be stripped of the WWE Championship. The Rock then gets on the mic and says that the night isn’t ending like that. Rock says that McMahon isn’t taking the title form him, he is and asks for the match to be restarted. McMahon says to restart and the bell rings!
Punk goes right back to work on The Rock with right hands. Punk hits a running knee and a clothesline before heading to the top and hitting an elbow drop for a near fall. Punk motions for go to sleep but Rocky counters and hits a spinebuster. We then get the people’s elbow! Rock hooks the leg and gets the three! The Rock becomes WWE Champion!
And that was the 2013 Royal Rumble event. The smallest amount of matches on a pay per view that I can remember but it made every match seem more special. I really enjoyed the opener with Del Rio and Big Show. It was a fun Last Man Standing match that had the risk of being repetitive having seen the same match with the same stipulation a week ago but they managed to make this match different by taking it up the entrance way. I really liked the spot with the chokeslam off the set and through the table. Del Rio came out of the match looking really good. I liked the finish, taping Big Show to the ropes meant he couldn’t stand up and beat the count. Really cool finish. Team Hell No then beat Team Rhodes Scholars in a pretty standard tag team match. I think I preferred Hell No when they didn’t get on. But they won this match pretty convincingly which will make it hard for Rhodes and Sandow to bounce back. I like Team Hell No as champions.
And then came the Royal Rumble match. This was different to a usual Rumble match in that they tend to be split up into parts but this one flowed more like one match. Chris Jericho was a surprise return that I wasn’t expecting, it’s great to see him back and it makes sense that he would start with Ziggler after Dolph caused Jericho to leave. Those two men lasted most of the match. The rest of the first ten were fairly underwhelming and had no chance of winning. Kofi and Rhodes are solid midcarders but weren’t going to win this match. Sheamus entered at 11 but was followed by lower carders like Brodus Clay, Tensai, Darren Young and Bo Dallas. The spot with Bo and Wade Barrett was good and if Dallas is to stay on the main roster then this is a good debut for him. The Godfather was a big surprise but he didn’t last long. And Goldust is back which is cool, I wonder if he will feud with Cody Rhodes. Team Rhodes Scholars vs. Booker T & Goldust would be awesome. Cena, Orton and Ryback entered late and were there at the end. I would have liked to see four big babyfaces at the end with Orton replacing Ziggler. Cena won which sets up a rematch with he and The Rock for Wrestlemania. I’m all for it. Not a popular choice to win the match but it makes a lot of sense.
It’s rare that a match follows the Royal Rumble match these days but tonight The Rock and CM Punk went on last. It makes a lot of sense. This show had the highest amount of buys for a Rumble PPV in over ten years and most of that will be down to The Rock. He would win the match and the WWE Championship in a match I couldn’t decide between. I liked the finish and The Rock wanting to continue the match was really cool. This was a good match and one definitely worth checking out if you haven’t seen it before. It sets up a huge match for Wrestlemania but where does CM Punk fit in? Overall a show that didn’t put a foot wrong. Go check it out, it’s one of the best WWE overall PPV’s of all time.
